Short Notes on Deccan Policy of Shah Jahan

Deccan Policy of Shah Jahan

Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan secured a positive advance in the extension of his authority over the Deccan during his reign of over 28 years.

In his reign the Nizam Shahi kingdom came to an end and the Qutb Shah and the Adil Shah lost their sovereignty and parts of their territory.

Shah Jahan seems to have been opposed to a policy of annexation. Like Alauddin, he tolerated the existence of tributary vassal states and while anxious to impose his supremacy over them did not object to the extension of their authority in neutral territory.

He also abstained from interfering in their internal affairs as long as they did not infringe his imperial prerogative.
