Save Earth

Henry David Thoreau the famous American poet and philosopher once said, “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” This statement brings to light how fortunate we are, to be living on a planet that provides everything for us. Save Earth campaigns refer to the attempts made by people to conserve the flora and fauna; to preserve the state of the water bodies, the atmosphere – all of which are essential for the growth and development of beings that inhabit Earth.

As the standard of living is increasing exponentially, in this 21st century, it is becoming more and more difficult to safeguard the planet that was given to us. Our wants are mounting up to such an extent, that Mother Earth is being wrung dry to satisfy us. While every individual can adopt basic measures, to contribute towards saving Earth, severe damage is being inflicted because of deforestation and pollution. Progressive countries are competing to have an upper hand in different fields such as technology, tourism, education, etc. But the important question is, what progress are we really making if we are adding to the destruction of Earth? Governments are becoming alert and taking steps to reduce ozone depletion. People are actively involved in planting more trees, protesting against the construction of unnecessary facilities, reducing emissions from vehicles, and efficient disposal of waste. On the other hand, global warming isn’t diminishing and is leading to fluctuating weather.

We must consider the benefits of living a simpler life so that our future generations have a planet to live on. Simple does not necessarily equate to a low quality of living. We can still learn to be content with minimal luxuries. Also, progress should be made using safer procedures. Otherwise, we may head towards a fancier lifestyle and be left with a crumbling planet.
