Brief Note on Eid Festival


Eid or Eid al-Fitr is known as the feast of breaking the fast which is an important festival celebrated by Muslims across the globe. It is celebrated at the end of the Holy month of Ramadan, called as the ‘month of fasting”. The Eid al-Fitr is also called as the Sweet Festival and the Sugar Feast. As per Quran, Muslims are commanded by Allah and continue their fast till the end of Ramadan.

The date of Eid al-Fitr varies by each locality due to based on the observation of new moon for start of lunar Hijri month by the local religious authorities.

This important religious festival has a particular Islamic prayer (Salat)  which is offered to Allah. This has six Takbirs which means the raising of hands while saying ‘Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest).

Eid al-Fitr or Eid was firstly originated by Islamic prophet Muhammad. As per some traditions, this festival was initiated after the relocation of Muhammad from the Meccain Madinah. The festivals of Eid al-Adha & Eid al-Fitr are important occasions for showing their gratitude to the God.
